The Business of Getting to Clean Energy & Environment

On July 12th, New England Women in Energy and Environment (NEWIEE) gathered for its second annual “Women Shaping the Agenda” panel series on “The Business of Getting to Clean Energy and Environment” at The Fletcher School at Tufts University.

The evening began with a reception which brought together both experienced and young professionals from across the energy and environment industries. From there, NEWIEE President Beth Barton introduced the panel:

  • Moderator Barbara Kates-Garnick, Professor of Practice and Senior Research Fellow, Center for International Environment and Resource Policy, Fletcher School, Tufts University
  • Cynthia A. Arcate, President and CEO of PowerOptions
  • Cheryl A. Warren, National Grid USA Board Director and Innovation Strategist
  • Maryrose Sylvester, President and CEO of Current, Powered by GE
Maryrose spoke of four key aspects to industry transition – innovation, re-writing the rules of business, digitization, and successful partnering. Cheryl talked about appreciative inquiry and the importance of listening to the customer and understanding what they want, how to display data and information that will make sense to the customer. Cynthia stressed the importance of maintaining competitive markets, both retail and wholesale, and to learn from lessons from other industries.
