Western New England Chapter Event: Holyoke Gas & Electric Fish Ladder Tour

June 9, 2017 @ 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm

Holyoke Gas & Electric Fish Ladder Tour
Location: 1 Bridge Street, Holyoke, Massachusetts 01040
Date:  Friday, June 9, 2017, 3:30 PM to 5 PM

Each spring, American Shad, Sea Lamprey, Atlantic Salmon and other anadromous fish swim up the Connecticut River as they begin their annual spring migration. Join us for a tour of the fish lifts at Holyoke Gas & Electric’s Robert E. Barrett Fishway, which helps migrating fish up and over the Holyoke Dam. It was the first and most successful fish lift on the Atlantic coast and consists of two elevators or “lifts” which carry migrating fish over dam. HG&E is the current owner of the Holyoke Dam, Canal System, and associated hydroelectric facilities, which it purchased from Northeast Utilities (Holyoke Water Power) in 2001. Electrical output from this hydro system provides approximately two thirds of Holyoke’s annual electricity use.

Space is limited—sign up today! RSVP to Weezie Nuara at mnuara@iso-ne.com by June 7 if you would like to attend!
